Bio-Microbics, a division of Smith & Loveless, Inc., provides FAST wastewater treatment systems for a variety of applications ranging from single-family dwellings to industrial, commercial and marine. FAST (Fixed Activated Sludge Treatment) systems have been used for many years as a reliable and effective treatment solution. When influent enters the FAST system, it encounters submerged media in the aeration tank. The bacteria become "fixed" or attached to the media, which enables growth with a higher surface area-to-volume ratio. This prevents the washing out of the microbial populaton by hydraulic shock loads. There is an area underneath the media for the bacteria to slough off and digest in an anaerobic environment.
